Walking in the French Alps

Chalet Cannelle provides the perfect base from which to explore the summer delights the Alps have to offer

hiking in the french alps

Once the snow has melted, Châtel becomes green and lush revealing the expansive walking trails on the mountains. There are an impressive 90km network of walking trails that are well maintained and sign posted, within and around the Abondance villages as well as high up among the peaks.

The walking in the area is for all abilities, with one hour to full day or even multi day walks with the GR5 route passing nearby. Guides and maps are available in the chalet and we are always on hand to recommend a good hike. We love to walk and still making our way through the 100's of trails on offer in the Portes du Soleil.

Once higher up, by chair lift, car or by foot, the views and scenery of the Chablais Alps are stunning and from here, the famous peaks of Mont Blanc, the Eiger and the Matterhhorn are all visible, not to mention the impressive seven summits of the Dents du Midi.

Outside of Châtel, there are further walking and hiking options viewing a different perspective of the mountains. Rocher de Naye, St Maurice, Bonnevaux & Champery all have extensive walking networks and make a splendid day trip from Chalet Cannelle.
